I don’t know about you, but I have become a slave to my mobile device!
I use my phone for almost everything: email, calendar, to-do list, writing notes, website management, social media, recipes, latest news and weather…and oh yeah, calls and texts. While all of this makes keeping up and staying in touch very easy, it can easily soak up a lot of my time. Sometimes, I find myself constantly hypnotized by the screen, forfeiting many wonderful experiences happening right where I am.
I do not like this realization. I do not like this new habit. I want to be more in the moments God gives me.
I have always been a people watcher. But now I do it through a screen which over – shadows their real stories, their real joys, and their real pains. I want to share in the lives of the people He has given me, not just share a virtual space with them. I want to look into their eyes. I want to tune into their voices, hear their words. I want to be in the moment.
How can I effectively serve God and others if I am constantly looking at a screen? I cannot. It’s time to schedule screen time and stick to it. No more, no less.
If you struggle with this habit as well, let’s make this change together. Let’s put the screen down and look up!
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” -Romans 12:2
